Burners are hitting the road for the Black Rock Desert, and they've almost completely burned out the area's U-Haul and RV supply doing so.
This is perhaps one of the busiest burning man seasons that these rental companies have seen. Richard Dixon, manager of Classic Adventures RV Rentals in Reno says they are completely "rented out" of their 70-80 fleet supply.Â
Dixon explained that they were not surprised by this, though, since they often see returning international customers in addition to local burners. He explains, "We're probably, on average, sold out by May. We're probably 60%Â sold out by the end of January, the end of February."
Driving around town, people may notice an equally scarce fleet supply at local U-Haul locations. In fact, many burners had to go as far as Las Vegas to find an available U-Haul truck rental.Â
Matt Taylor, a burner visiting from London for his second festival told us about his experience this year, "The U-Haul was hard to rent, actually. We had some booked in Reno and then when we went to pick them up, they had given them to someone else."
Taylor and his crew ended up driving all the way to San Francisco to pick their rental up. The burners from "Ooligan Alley" located at "2:00 & B," hit the road Friday afternoon.Â
On that note, Nevada Highway Patrol has some travel safety tips for those taking S.R. 447 to the Black Rock Desert.  They want to remind everyone that 447 is a long, empty stretch of road.
- Be sure to bring enough water and gas on your road-trip.
- Make sure your tires are inflated properly and that your vehicle is in good condition. Â
- If not--the long stretch of roadway has little to no shoulder room and it will be tough to pull over if it happens to break down.Â
