Lyon County Deputies Identify Person Killed in Silver Springs

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office has identified the person killed in an officer-involved shooting in Silver Springs on Thursday night.

Deputies say 19-year-old Tristan Conti of Reno was killed, while one juvenile was hurt during the incident Thursday night. It began around 8:30 p.m. when Sparks Police reported that a red Chevy Cruze had been stolen, with a total of four suspects fleeing towards Yerington.

Earlier, Sparks Police had reported that the four men held the car's owner at gunpoint and took the victim's car. They were later spotted at the Nugget Casino in Silver Springs.

Lyon County Sheriff Al McNeil says when a deputy approached the vehicle to make contact with the suspects, one suspect opened fire.

Authorities say the unidentified deputy was struck in the hand before returning fire, killing Conti.

The deputy was treated and released from Renown Regional Medical Center.

A second juvenile is expected to recover from his injuries, where at that time the juvenile will be transferred to a juvenile center in the area.

Sheriff McNeil says the two other suspects were detained and taken to Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center.

The Nevada Division of Investigations is handling the criminal aspect of the investigation. Carson City Sheriff's Office is leading the death investigation, as is protocol in an officer-involved shooting. The deputy involved will be placed on administrative leave pending completion of the investigation.

Sheriff McNeil says there was also a power outage in the area that was unrelated to the crime. He says lighting may have initially hindered the investigation, but several units on scene were able to detain the remaining suspects.
