Bently Heritage Estate Distillery & Public House in Minden, Nevada is addressing a rumor surrounding the Black Lives Matter and counter protests scheduled for the weekend of August 8, 2020.
The distillery is apparently being accused of busing in protesters to Minden, allowing them to park at the business and calling for a protest in town.
On Facebook, the owner of the distillery, Christopher Bently writes, "Recent events in our community have left me feeling sad and heartbroken. I was also shocked to see the personal attacks against my family and misinformation spread via social media."
Bently adds, "We did not call for this protest to happen in our town. We have never been contacted by, nor have had any direct communication with a Nevada Black Lives Matter group. We are not busing protesters to Minden, inviting people from out of town to the protest, nor allowing parking or gathering on our property."
Bently says in the letter he stands for the Black Lives Matter movement. He addresses the statement Douglas County Sheriff Coverley made in July in regards to the planned statement by the library supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.Â

Bently says, "I was concerned his statement could be interpreted as an incitement to violence against the library. I wrote to our government officials with great concern because his statement indicated he would not fulfill his sworn duties as an elected public official to protect and serve. However, as we learned the following day, the Sheriff met with the Library Director to make amends and clarify that his deputies would continue responding to calls from the library, so I am not actively pursuing action against the Sheriff."
Bently ends the letter with "My hope is that together, we will inspire future generations of community leaders to learn that they can rise above the moment, and serve and act for the betterment of the whole community."
