Nevada Department of Transportation says there will be temporary traffic closures on State Route 28 south of Incline Village as part of a project to construct a shared use path and enhance roadway safety and water quality.
- On Wednesday, Sept. 21 and Monday, Sept. 26 through Friday, Oct. 7 near Hidden Beach, one mile south of Incline Village there will be lane closures all day with up to 30-minute travel delay. Â
- Between 7 am and 9 am on Wednesday, Sept. 28 and on Sunday, Oct. 2  there will be rolling road closures, with delays ranging from 30 minutes to one hour, as wide-load trucks deliver the precast undercrossing tunnel.
- On the evening of Sept. 27 through the morning of Sept. 29, and after 5pm on Oct. 1 through the morning of Oct. 3, the roadside parking lot at Memorial Point scenic overlook will also be closed to allow the trucks a staging area.
- Through Oct. 20 periodic lane closures will continue during daytime weekday hours with travel delays that will often average five minutes or less but could be as long as 30 minutes. During non-working hours, all lanes will be open.
- Northbound traffic will be held at certain locations on State Route 28 from the intersection with U.S. 50 Spooner Summit to Memorial Point to allow for the wide loads to pass. Southbound traffic will be allowed to travel behind the wide loads.
The project will build a three-plus mile shared-use path from the south end of Incline Village to Sand Harbor State Park. An underpass will be constructed beneath the highway to bring the path from the east to west side of the road near the Flume Trail. Three new parking areas will be constructed near the Ponderosa Ranch and Tunnel Creek Café, providing safer parking options. Centerline rumble strips and emergency roadside turnouts will also be added to State Route 28, further enhancing motorist and pedestrian safety. In addition, water quality improvements such as enhanced roadside drainage inlets, sediment filtration systems and erosion control will be installed to help preserve the quality of storm water entering Lake Tahoe.Â
