Sparks residents saw a new doughnut shop open up Tuesday, one that Reno residents have enjoyed for years - DoughBoys Donuts!
Jay Kenny and his family own and operate the two DoughBoys Donuts in Reno, and just opened up a new location on Sparks Boulevard and Los Altos Parkway.
“We've been looking for many years now for a Sparks/Spanish Springs location, but finally found one that worked for us so we are very fortunate. We are excited to be here in Sparks and excited for the future," says Kenny.
Locals enjoying a few breakfast pastries say they are excited for the new location, and are thrilled to that it's a family owned business.
"When you support local you are supporting a family, you are helping people get their kids braces and dance lessons and you aren't supporting, you know, someone out in a different state,” said Spanish Springs resident Emma Menesini.
Jay credits the booming local economy as one of the reasons for the expansion, saying, “I think it's definitely on the upward tick right now, and I think we will continue to see growth through next year and probably into 2020, I really don't see it slowing down."
He says that the opening of the new, bigger shop will help with doughnut production for the other locations as well, as they sometimes run out because of high demand.
But even while expanding, Jay says he treats his 50 plus employees like family, and pays them accordingly.
“Rent is definitely going up, housing is very expensive right now, so we start all of our employees at a very competitive rate just to help out in that situation we have right now so they can afford housing."
