Update (5/23/2025, 8:15 p.m.):

Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC) has provided an update regarding a group of small fires that were set on Monday.

In a release, LTWC says that the fires were deliberately set to surround the facility, each between 100 and 250 yards from the facility's wildlife enclosures.

Officials say that thanks to the quick work of LTWC staff and volunteers, all animals at the facility were safely secured, and no wildlife was harmed.

LTWC is cooperating with the investigation, and asks anyone with information to contact the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

Forest Service members say the small fires happened near Al Tahoe and Pioneer Trail and were all less than an acre in size.

Firefighters say forward progress was stopped and that crews are digging hand lines around each fire.

Numerous agencies responded to the fires including CAL FIRE, Lake Valley Fire Protection District, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue, South Lake Police Department, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office and Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District.
