New NSP Deputy Director

The Nevada Department of Public Safety has announced the appointment of Kristen Defer as its new Deputy Director, effective July 4.

She will take over the position from Sheri Brueggemann, who will retire on July 3, after serving 20 years with the Department.

Defer began working with the Department in 2013 and has held various roles in administration, finance, and leadership.

Her experience includes working in both the Nevada Highway Patrol and the Nevada State Fire Marshal divisions.

Most recently, she served as the Chief Fiscal Officer for the Department, contributing to the management team during several legislative sessions.

Prior to her time with the Department, Defer worked in healthcare administration with medical offices in Nevada.

She holds a degree in Business Management and has credentials as both a Certified Public Manager and Certified Contract Manager.

“Strong, experienced leadership is essential to an organization’s success,” said Director George Togliatti. “Kristen Defer’s knowledge and expertise make her a tremendous asset to both the Department and the citizens of Nevada.”

The Department stated that this leadership change reflects its continued focus on professional excellence and public service.

"I am incredibly honored and deeply grateful to accept the appointment as Deputy Director of the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

Having proudly served in the department for over a decade, this opportunity is both a personal and professional milestone.

I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Nevada with integrity, dedication, and a steadfast commitment to public service and safety," said Defer.
