The Stonegate Development Project was originally designed in 2018, with plans to build thousands of housing units, first responder infrastructure, and even two new elementary schools and a high school.Â
In 2021, the Reno City Council came to a decision not to move forward with these plans, waiting for better economic conditions.Â
Recently, revisions to the original plans have disgruntled some residents of the area, and on Thursday night, they were able to voice their concerns at a Neighborhood Advisory Board meeting, which was held at Reno-Stead Airport.Â
"The changes would make the area largely industrial," said Ward 4 City Councilwoman Meghan Ebert. "The concern that I have is they had a lot of community meetings, but the feedback that they received from residents was not incorporated into the change design."Â
These changes would see the removal of integral resources such as first responder infrastructure, the schools, and even recreational areas like parks and open spaces.Â
Ebert added that a water study has not been completed, and the developers have converted to using groundwater as opposed to Truckee Meadows Water Authority facilities.Â
In addition to these changes and the industrialization of the project, the development would see an increase in traffic near Cold Springs and affect its homeowners.Â
"The shift in the project would increase the amount of truck traffic on the road, wear and tear on the road," she said. "I just have concerns for the property values for the residents in Cold Springs."Â
Ebert, as well as the community, discussed the disappointment in the project not providing long-awaited resources that the community was adamant about wanting in Cold Springs. Â
Attendees have told us this is not the last time this topic will be discussed, with future meetings coming up to discuss the revisions and community concerns.Â
