Peak Allergy says typically this time of year is the worst for people dealing with spring allergies.
An Allergist with them says those struggling this time of year are allergic to tree pollens.
"With this late rain, we're going to see more pollen kind of bounce back up and then we always get the hots and then the colds and so the trees will continue to make pollen in the coming weeks, but the reality is every year is a tough year for pollen sufferers and pollen allergic patients," said Dr. Reece Jones, M.D. Peak Allergy.
Some residents are having mixed reactions to it.
"Oh, my goodness they're terrible," said Michele Anderson, Truckee resident.
"Right now, not too bad because I take Flonase," said Patricia Featherstone, Truckee resident.
Dr. Jones says folks can get a regular allergy pill or something over the counter to help treat it, but there are some natural ways to help deal with it.
"There's always the basic guidelines of keeping your doors and windows closed and not cooling the house in the afternoons with the windows open, you know, to try and minimize that exposure. Showering can help before you jump into bed, making sure you're getting the pollen off," Dr. Jones said.
Some folks have their own methods.
"I carry a Kleenex in my pocket at all times, and I don't take any medication either except Flonase, I don't take like Claritin or anything like that," Anderson said. "So, I just try and stay very hydrated."
Peak Allergy says you should go see an Allergist if you've exhausted every option and your symptoms are still severe.
