The Better Business Bureau, in partnership with American Document Destruction, Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, and KTVN 2 News Nevada is inviting people and businesses in the Reno/Sparks area to shred their documents for free.

The Secure Your ID Day event is on October 12 at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa's west parking lot, at 3800 S Virginia Street in Reno.

People can bring up to three boxes or bags of documents in for free shredding between 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or until the shred trucks are full.

Documents to be shredded should be removed from binders; but staples, paper clips, CDs and floppy discs are okay to shred.

Nevada ranked third highest for reported identity theft in 2023, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

People who come to take advantage of the free shredding are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to benefit the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, which is a BBB Accredited Charity.

More information about the event can be found at the BBB Secure Your ID Day link in the News Links section of our site.
