Lake Park Day of Service

The City of Reno, in collaboration with One Truckee River, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB), and Friends of Lake Park, is inviting the public to take part in a Day of Service at Lake Park on Saturday.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 40 Coleman Drive in Reno.

The community event will feature family-friendly activities and hands-on volunteer opportunities to plant trees, spread mulch, and enhance the River-Friendly Living Demonstration Garden. The first volunteer shift begins at 9 a.m. with mulching, followed by a second shift at 1 p.m. for tree planting and new park bench installation.

“When we come together as a community to improve our public spaces, we’re not just planting trees, we’re planting pride, connection, and long-term care for our neighborhoods and our Lake Park,” said Ward 5 Councilmember Devon Reese.

A highlight of the day will be the installation of a new bench made from reclaimed waste wood salvaged from trees previously removed from Reno’s urban forest.

“The new bench is a symbol of our commitment to sustainability and responsible urban forestry,” said Councilmember Naomi Duerr, Urban Forestry Liaison for the City of Reno. “By repurposing wood from our own removed trees, we’re closing the loop and turning loss into legacy, and waste into beauty.”

All tools and materials will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring sturdy shoes and enthusiasm.

People of all ages and experience levels can sign up to participate at ktmb.org/events.
