Each year, the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley takes part in Wreaths Across America Day.

Over 8,300 wreaths are placed on the headstones of veterans in Fernley, and people say this is a special way to honor them.

"When you lay the wreath down you read the veterans name and when you do so, it brings them to life if you will; it is something where they are still talked about. They could have been interred for 10 years, 20 years, 30 years, you're still saying their name and so that keeps them in the present," said Rich Crombie, President of the Nevada Veterans Coalition.

Crombie adds that these wreaths act as remembrance wreaths.

They aim to help people remember the sacrifices that veterans made and the impacts they had on people's lives.

Many community members came out to take part in this ceremony, which some people say is nice to see.

"I find it very heartwarming; my husband is retired Air Force, and you don't see this in every community - and this community is very veteran-oriented," said Bonni Distler.

The wreaths that have been placed will stay there until the new year.

With so many wreaths being placed each year, Wreaths Across America and the Nevada Veterans Coalition need help raising funds for next year's event.
