A coyote attacked a worker on USA Parkway early Monday morning, leading to an investigation by the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

Around 5:50 a.m. Monday morning, victim Alex Pheneger had exited his vehicle and was grabbing his tools out of the back of his truck when he felt a bite on his left leg.

He turned around to see a coyote - other workers were able to confirm.

Alex immediately went to the hospital and was treated for the bite.

Game Wardens from NDOW received a call and responded to the site at around 7:40 a.m.

The warden on scene was told by several people that nearby coyotes were being fed by people on the job site. This led to these wild animals being habituated to humans and is potentially the cause of the conflict.

Another report from the same day found that another worker was bitten on the pant leg by a coyote, but the bite didn't contact skin.

Due to the fact that the coyotes were attacking humans, game wardens killed three coyotes at the job site. One of the coyotes was in the same area as the original attack and was harassing another worker when wardens arrived.

These coyotes were sent off to the state lab to be tested for rabies.

NDOW would like to stress that you should never feed wildlife. It can lead to aggressive behavior towards humans, and human-provided food lacks the nutrients required for wildlife to thrive.
