DECEMBER 18 UPDATE:

Lyon County Animal Services says a 16-year-old dog that was in a single-engine plane crash is resting comfortably but did suffer a broken rib.

Two people on the plane had to be flown to a local hospital.

We've reached out to the Sheriff's Office for more information about the extent of their injuries, but have not yet heard back.

Two people were hospitalized after a small plane crashed north of U.S. 50 in Silver Springs early Wednesday afternoon. 

Deputies say they got multiple 911 calls reporting the downed aircraft along U.S. 50, just before 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. 

When emergency crews arrived on scene, they found two people inside the single-engine plane who were later transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office will continue to work with the FAA and the NTSB during the course of the investigation.

Deputies say no one on the ground was hurt.
