Some drivers may have noticed NDOT has started construction on I-80 in west Reno. NDOTÂ tells us drivers should expect some lane reductions and overnight ramp closures over the next couple of years.
Starting now until mid-2026 more than one mile of I-80 is going to be repaved, widened, and improved between West McCarran Boulevard and Keystone Avenue.
"Not only will the interstate be improved, landscape and aesthetics will be enhanced, bridges will be enhanced, drainage will as well, and an auxiliary merge lane will be added from McCarran to eastbound I-80,"Â said Meg Ragonese, public information officer for NDOT.
Ragonese says everything will be clear during the daytime. However, starting around 7 every evening drivers should expect cones being put back out and construction beginning again until around 6 in the morning the next day. NDOTÂ is asking drivers to stay cautious and respect the work zones by slowing down to 55 miles per hour.
Although some drivers might feel frustrated with another construction project in the roads, one man says he doesn't think it'll be too much of a problem because it will all be worth it in the end.
"I think this is really good for Reno because right now we got a lot of traffic and if they add another lane, it's really good for us because we are a lot of people in Reno, so we need that,"Â said Martin Lopez, Reno resident.Â
