Two people have been arrested after authorities say they found more than $176,000 worth of fentanyl after a months-long investigation. 

The Reno Police Department says detectives with the Regional Narcotics Unit arrested 28-year-old Abel Rivas-Diaz and 31-year-old Monica Gasca after a traffic stop near I-80 and Robb Drive on Tuesday. During the stop, police say detectives found about 685.26 grams of fentanyl and two guns inside the suspects’ car.

They say a search also conducted at the suspects’ home yielded an additional 199.66 grams of fentanyl.

Police say the total seizure of 884.92 grams of fentanyl has an estimated street value exceeding $176,000 and is equivalent to approximately 442,460 potentially lethal doses.

Both suspects were arrested and booked into the Washoe County Jail on the following charges:

* Possession of a Controlled Substance

* Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell

* Trafficking of a Controlled Substance

* Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm

The investigation is ongoing.
