Update July 18:
The Bureau of Land Management confirmed the fire in Gold Hill has been fully contained after burning 19 acres.
Crews will continue mopping up and securing the fire perimeter on Saturday, until the fire is declared controlled.
Ophir Grade Road is still closed.
No buildings were threatened and residents did not have to evacuate.
The cause is under investigation.
Original story July 17:
Fire crews are on the scene of a wildland fire in Gold Hill, west of N Main Street and just south of Virginia City.
The Storey County Sheriff’s Office, in an online update at 3:15 p.m., advised that Storey County Fire District has lifted an evacuation warning that was previously issued for Gold Hill and Virginia City, south of Highway 341/342.
Crews continue to work in the area.
Drivers on N. Main Street are asked to watch for emergency vehicles in the area.
