Crews have stopped forward progress on the Rancho Fire which first sparked yesterday afternoon.
The fire is burning in the Rancho Haven area north of Cold Springs and has scorched 1,400 acres.
Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue has confirmed the fire was started by a person.
"We do have evidence that there was an individual grinding metal and that is all I can say as that is continued to be investigated," said Adam Mayberry, public information officer for TMFR.
175 personnel from multiple fire agencies are working on the fire, along with aircraft support. So far, no buildings have been damaged and no injuries reported. The fir is 10 percent contained.
Mayberry says the fire quickly spread when it first sparked. He tells us luckily crews were able to quickly catch up overnight when the wind died down and it got cooler.
Even though evacuation orders have been lifted, Mayberry says nearby communities need to still be prepared in case they're put back in place.
"If the fire continues to be much more aggressive or much more active, an evacuation certainly could be on the horizon," he said.
A good way to stay prepared is keeping a to-go bag with enough essentials to last at least three days. That includes non-perishable food, water, medications, cash, and important paperwork.
We'll keep you updated on this fire as we continue to receive any new information.
