A Reno-based high school robotics team just returned home from Houston where they competed in the FIRST® World Championship in Houston.

The Ionizers finished 51st in their division after 10 matches, and were the top-seeded rookie team in their bracket -a strong debut for a first-year team.

The 2026 FIRST® World Championship drew about 50,000 people and 600 FIRST® Robotics Competition teams from around the world, split into eight divisions of 75.

The trip was made possible in part by a $15,000 grant from the Gillemot Foundation, which offset all lodging costs for the team.
