The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating bomb threats involving schools across Lyon County after a series of anonymous calls on Tuesday prompted lockouts districtwide.

In a Facebook post earlier in the morning, the sheriff’s office said, “At this time, we do not believe there is any active danger, but we are taking this situation very seriously.

Deputies and additional resources have been dispatched to our schools as a precaution.

We will provide updates when available.”

According to Lyon County School District administration, Silver Stage High School received a call at about 9:14 a.m. from an anonymous person claiming they had “ARs and bombs and would be at the school within 15 minutes.”

Silver Stage High School and nearby schools were immediately placed into lockout status while law enforcement responded.

District officials said a similar call was later made to Dayton High School, leading schools in that area to take the same precautions. The caller then contacted dispatch and made similar threats involving all Lyon County School District schools and schools throughout Nevada.

At that point, all LCSD schools were placed into lockout status as a precaution.

District officials described the incident as “swatting,” which involves anonymous threats intended to trigger a large emergency response and disrupt school operations.

Law enforcement and school administrators conducted an investigation and determined the threats were anonymous and non-specific in nature. Officials said all students and staff were safe, and the lockout status was later lifted at all schools.

Law enforcement personnel remained at each school Tuesday out of an abundance of caution.

District officials said the safety measures were taken to protect students and staff while the threats were investigated.
