Make-A-Wish Nevada, a statewide nonprofit that grants wishes to children diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses, announced that more than $43,000 was raised at its 2nd Annual Hope Open Golf Tournament.
The event, presented by Nevada Heating, took place at Washoe County Golf Club, 2601 Foley Way in Reno, on Aug. 22, more than doubling the amount raised during the tournament’s inaugural year in 2024.
All proceeds from the tournament benefit Make-A-Wish Nevada and its mission “to deliver hope and joy during an otherwise difficult time for critically ill children and their families.”
The sold-out tournament welcomed 144 golfers and participants for a day centered on community, generosity, fun, and purpose.
The highlight of the tournament’s post-event lunch was a special wish reveal for 10-year-old Kai Eickenloff, who is diagnosed with cancer.
Kai, who was diagnosed in March 2024 and spent several months at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, is still undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
During the celebration, he learned that his wish to visit the Jurassic World theme park at Universal Studios in Florida with his family was coming true.
The moment gave attendees a firsthand look at the life-changing impact of their support and underscored the true purpose of the day: bringing joy, hope, and unforgettable experiences to children and families.
The tournament will raise money for children with critical illnesses.
“The Hope Open is such a powerful reminder of what our Northern Nevada community can achieve when we come together,” said Sheila Marcello-Victor, senior development director with Make-A-Wish Nevada. “Every golfer, sponsor, volunteer, and donor who participated in the 2nd Annual Hope Golf Tournament helps us bring life-changing wishes to children across Nevada. Make-A-Wish Nevada extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone whose generosity and dedication made the Hope Open possible.”
