A man has been arrested on charges including possession of a stolen vehicle and an outstanding warrant for embezzlement and theft after a traffic stop in Spanish Springs on Tuesday.
On September 16, during routine patrols, Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputies noticed a suspicious vehicle with a man inside, later identified as 64-year-old Brett Cunningham.
Deputies did a registration check and found that the vehicle was reported stolen on September 5, according to a release from the WCSO.
It was registered to an elderly woman living in Sparks.
Deputies contacted the woman at her home and discovered she was unable to drive due to a medical condition. To get her car back, they took her to her car to verify it was hers and to let her check to see if any additional property was taken.
Deputies then drove her car back to her home with her riding along as a passenger.
Cunningham is currently booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on charges including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a felony warrant out of El Dorado County, California, for embezzlement/theft from an elderly person, and a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear out of Sparks Justice Court.
