A man accused of failing to follow registration requirements is now facing multiple charges after an arrest in Sparks.

In early January, detectives with the Crime Gun Intelligence Center began investigating a man suspected of illegally possessing guns. During that investigation, detectives said they learned the man was also a convicted sex offender that was required to register his home with local law enforcement within 48 hours.

Authorities determined the man had allegedly been living at multiple locations in Washoe County for several months without properly registering.

Detectives from the Sex Offender Notification Unit assisted in the investigation.

On April 23, the man was located at a business in Sparks and arrested. Police said at the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of a concealed handgun and additional ammunition. Investigators later carried out a search warrant at a home associated with him, where additional evidence was found.

Subsequently 28-year-old Geovaughanii Chambers-Richie, was arrested on charges of failure to register as a sex offender, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and possession of a concealed weapon.

The Crime Gun Intelligence Center is a collaborative unit made up of detectives and agents from the Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and analysts from the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program.
