The Lyon County Sheriff's Office says there was no active threat at Fernley High School following a false social media post on Tuesday morning.

Deputies say at 7:35 a.m., a post on a social media platform indicated that there was an active shooter at Fernley High School. At that moment, authorities say both Fernley School Resource Officers were present on campus and observed no danger to students or staff.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers, along with the Lyon County School District, were informed of the post around 8:10 a.m., roughly 35 minutes after the initial post. Deputies say all students were confirmed to be safe, with no threats posed to students, staff, or the community.

The sheriff's office says it should be noted that the Dispatch center did not receive any calls regarding the incident.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says it conducted an investigation into the post and has concluded that the information came from a parody account on a different social media platform. It says all information gathered was found to be inaccurate.

The Sheriff’s Office urges the public to avoid sharing unverified information online and to call law enforcement if you think an incident is occurring. For additional details concerning this incident, contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and direct inquiries to Sgt. Mark Kosak by calling (775) 463-6600.
