Second Judicial District Court Washoe County

One person is hoping to take the bench in Department 13 of the Second Judicial District Court.

Chief Justice Douglas Herndon announced on Wednesday that the Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection received one application to fill the judicial opening. The seat became vacant following the resignation of Bridget Robb in early February.

The applicant is 43-year-old Alexander Morey, of Reno. He is a partner with Silverman Kattleman Springgate Morey, Chtd.

Nevada attorneys with 10 years of legal experience, including two years practicing in Nevada, were encouraged to apply for the opening.

Interviews to fill the vacancy are tentatively scheduled for March 13 in Reno. If the Commission determines interviews are necessary, they will be streamed live on the Nevada Supreme Court’s YouTube channel and will be open to the public.

After interviews are completed, the Commission will nominate finalists to Joe Lombardo.

The Commission is made up of seven permanent members, the Supreme Court Chief Justice, three non-attorneys appointed by the governor, and three attorneys appointed by the State Bar of Nevada. Neither the governor nor the State Bar may appoint more than two permanent members from the same political party, and they cannot appoint two members from the same county.

For district court vacancies, two temporary members are added from the judicial district where the vacancy occurs: a non-attorney appointed by the governor and an attorney appointed by the State Bar, bringing the total number of Commission members to nine.
