One person is dead after a crash that prompted the Reno Police Department to close a stretch of South Virginia Street.
Just before 11:00 p.m. on Saturday night, Reno Police Department, Reno Fire Department and REMSA crews were called to a crash at the intersection of S. Virginia Street and Kietzke Lane.
Three cars were involved in the crash, all with single occupants.
Medical staff on site declared one of the drivers dead on scene.
Reno Police say that speed and disregarding lights and traffic laws were a factor in the crash - an investigation is currently underway by RPD to determine whether or not intoxication was a factor.
The other drivers are cooperating with the investigation, which is being handled by the Major Accident Investigation Team with RPD.
The identity of the one person who died is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.
South Virginia was closed in both north and southbound directions from Kietzke Lane to South McCarran Boulevard, as well as the I-580 southbound off-ramp - those closures have been lifted as of around 5:40 a.m.
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call the Reno Police Department's non-emergency line at (775) 334-2677; or you can call Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900 or leave a tip at the Secret Witness website.
