Reno-Tahoe International Airport remains open and operational despite the federal government shutdown, but federal employees, including Transportation Security Administration, Customs and Border Protection, and Federal Aviation Administration staff, continue to work without pay.
“These federal employees are our neighbors, friends, and colleagues. They live and work right here in northern Nevada,” said Daren Griffin, president and CEO of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority. “Even as they face uncertainty, they continue to show up every day to keep our airport safe, secure, and operational. We invite our community to join us in showing support, and together, we can make sure these essential workers know we all stand with them.”
To assist, the airport authority has partnered with The Children’s Cabinet and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, two local organizations equipped to deliver direct support.
The Children’s Cabinet will assign a dedicated team member to help federal airport workers access resources, including food, diapers, and household items, through its community market. Employees do not need to have children to receive help.
The Food Bank of Northern Nevada will offer food resources through its pantry program and more than 150 partner agencies. Its online tool allows individuals to locate nearby food distribution sites and view upcoming pantry events.
The RTAA encourages community members who want to help to connect directly with these organizations, which have systems in place to receive donations, coordinate volunteers, and provide ongoing support.
