A Reno traffic stop led to a large fentanyl seizure and multiple felony charges against a man.

According to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in an online post, detectives with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Northern Nevada Drug Task Force, assisted by the K9 Unit and the Regional Narcotics Unit, seized approximately 351 grams of fentanyl following an investigation stemming from a traffic stop in Reno.

47-year-old Philip Benson was arrested and charged with multiple felony offenses, including possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl, 42+ grams), trafficking a controlled substance (100–400 grams), and trafficking fentanyl (42+ grams).

Deputies said as little as 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be considered a potentially lethal dose for an average-sized adult, and the seizure equates to approximately 175,500 potentially lethal doses.

Deputies said collaboration between detectives, the K9 Unit, and regional law enforcement partners continues to play an important role in removing dangerous narcotics from the community and helping keep the region safe.
