People in east Sparks are concerned about the possibility of a local golf course being turned into housing.Â
The City of Sparks has yet to receive an application for the development.
The golf course in question is the Lakes Golf Course at Red Hawk Golf & Resort.
The City of Sparks said it met with developers on November 12 of last year about possibly turning the golf course into housing.
"It's already existing, so why change it?" said Rand Sullivan, a Sparks resident.
Sullivan lives nearby and said he worked for one of the companies that helped build the Lakes Golf Course. He said there are better places to build housing than on top of an existing resort.
"I mean, I don't mind seeing changes," he said, "but I would think that instead of tearing up something that's already existing, why don't you just make more infrastructure for other places?"
In their November meeting, the City of Sparks said they went over housing concepts with the developers.
These concepts revolved around an area within The Foothills at Wingfield Springs, a neighborhood just north of Golden Eagle Regional Park.
Another resident, who recently moved in, said she understands the need for housing, but she sympathizes with folks who bought property along the course.
"One of the things that's so beautiful about this area is all the green space and being able to enjoy it. It's always hard to have to give that up," Christal said.
Sullivan has lived in the region for quite some time, and says this potential development reminds him of when Wildcreek Golf Course was shrunk to make room for the new Hug High School.
"That got taken out. The school plays behind [the course]," he said.
The City of Sparks said if it receives an application in the coming weeks, staff expects to have more information by the end of the month.
