Shakespeare Animal Fund

The Shakespeare Animal Fund will hold a 21st anniversary event at Reno Public Market on Saturday, April 26.

The 'Old City Dog' event will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Organizers say there will be live music, a raffle, and free giveaways.

The Shakespeare Animal Fund was established in January 2004 to honor an old city dog named Shakespeare.

The nonprofit provides financial assistance for emergency veterinary care to pet owners who are unable to afford treatment for their suffering or dying animals.

Since its founding, the organization has helped thousands of local pets and their owners.

Founder Jennifer Webb stated, “This is all about raising enough funds during 2025 to increase what we offer each pet owner,” and emphasized the need for community involvement.

Attendees are invited to meet board members, learn about the organization’s mission, and discover how they can support or get involved.

The nonprofit is a 501(c)(3) organization, created in memory of Shakespeare, a dog originally from Harlem, New York City. After his owner moved to Reno and he passed away, the fund was founded in his honor to assist others in similar situations.
