Some fresh snow is making skiers and snowboarders pretty happy as they ring in the new year on the slopes.
Palisades Tahoe Ski Resort says they were not expecting snow on Wednesday, however they couldn't be more excited to kick off the new year with some fresh powder.
"We've already received 136 inches of snow this season," said Patrick Lacey, PR Manager. "30 of those inches are in the past seven days. I mean, it is looking to be a great season so far here at Palisades Tahoe."
While they do expect large crowds during the holidays, Lacey says so far, the slopes haven't been too packed. He tells us the lift lines aren't super long, and everyone seems to be enjoying the fresh powder.
Some visitors from out of town share their excitement to spend the new year doing what they love.
Leon Wong, a skier visiting from San Diego, says, "Came out here to go skiing today. You know it's the new year, we just wanted to get our first tracks. We actually came out here at eight o clock in the morning to try to catch first tracks so it's a pretty awesome day."
Mariana Sanchez, a snowboarder, says, "It's our first time in the new year and we're very excited and we both love snowboarding and yeah, that's what we're doing."
If you haven't had the chance to hit the slopes yet this season, just remember some ski resorts require parking reservations ahead of time including Palisades Tahoe.
