A familiar spot at Poulakidas Park in Sparks will soon get a new look as a local artist creates a mural celebrating America's 250th birthday and the city's place in the history of the American West.
The park's ball wall, on the northwest side next to Lincoln Park Elementary School, will temporarily close to the public starting Monday, Oct. 26, while artist Brooke Brazil works on the mural. The project is expected to take about three weeks.
The Nevada Arts Council funded the mural as part of the nationwide celebration of the United States' 250th anniversary in 2026.
Brazil was selected to create artwork reflecting the community's history and Sparks' contributions to building the American West. Residents had an opportunity to share ideas during a community input meeting held Oct. 1, helping inspire the mural's design.
The ball wall will reopen to the public once the mural is complete.
