The Storey County Sheriff's Office says they have seen a recent uptick in crime near the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center along USA Parkway.
SCSO said the growth of the area is the biggest factor behind the increase in calls for service. But that's not the only thing causing it.
"The second part of that is we have more resources and more training to be proactive and go out there and find these problems," said Sergeant Brooke Beaumont, Public Information Officer for SCSO.
Most recently, Storey County deputies say they caught three suspects for allegedly stealing two semi-truck trailers last week.
They were found later in an industrial area in Sparks, but were originally stolen at the TRI Center.
Deputies also arrested a driver for DUI following a hit-and-run crash around the same time.
Earlier in January, deputies conducted multiple drug busts in the industrial area. In both cases, one of the Sheriff's Office's newest divisions helped them out.
"We did create the K9 unit in 2025, along with our traffic enforcement unit. Both those units are specific, mostly in the TRI area. They can come up (to Virginia City), but they are focused out there," Beaumont said.
The K9 unit was added in May 2025, while its traffic unit started early last year.
SCSO said they hope its newest resources will be able to keep up with the increase in crime at the TRI Center.
