Multiple organizations came together to extinguish a fire in Sparks Monday evening.
According to a chief with the Sparks Fire Department, at around 5:30 p.m. crews were called to the scene of 2512 D Street in Sparks for the report of a fire putting out a large amount of smoke.
According to Sparks Firefighters, when fire personnel arrived on scene, they found a large rubbish and woodpile on fire with multiple involved vehicles that was threatening nearby power poles, power lines, some nearby buildings and vehicles.
They say the fire extended into a nearby home and caused significant damage.
Two people were transported by REMSA to a nearby hospital - one with burn injuries.
Their cat was safely rescued from the home, and one dog was also safely evacuated from a neighboring building.
In addition to fire crews, personnel from the Sparks Police Department, Nevada State Police, Reno Fire Department, Sparks Public Works and NV Energy all reported to the scene to assist.
NV Energy had to shut down power to a power pole in the area, resulting in around 350 customers being without power. The pole has since been reenergized and service restored.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and an investigation is ongoing.
