With the recent storms rolling through the area, some people might already be getting the itch to get back into the garden.

The University of Nevada, Reno Extension is hosting its "Gardening in Nevada: The Bartley Ranch Series" weekly workshops in Reno, starting this month.

The classes are meant for both new and experienced gardeners who want to brush up on their skills.

Led by certified Master Gardeners with the Extension, the classes are offered in partnership with Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space.

The classes are free. They take place from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. every Tuesday starting February 18 through April 1 at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno.

Even though the workshops are free, the Master Gardeners do ask that attendees consider bringing a canned good item for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

Classes cover a wide range of gardening topics, including:

  • Houseplants
  • Fire Adapted Landscape
  • Pond/Water Gardening
  • Plant Journaling
  • Cut Flower Gardening
  • Vegetable Gardening
  • Seeds

Organizers recommend registering online for your choice of workshops, since spots can fill up quickly.

Anyone with questions about any of the workshops can reach out to the Master Gardeners at ExtensionWashoeMG@unr.edu or call (775) 784-4848.
