A jury has convicted a man of killing another man in northwest Reno in 2023.

The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says a jury has convicted 27-year-old Edgar Hernandez-Jacinto of Second Degree Murder with the Use of a Deadly Weapon, as well as several drug charges.

Prosecutors say Hernandez-Jacinto shot and killed 21-year-old LaMar Jarriett at a condo complex on Sharlands Avenue in April of 2023.

Authorities say the two planned to meet up for Jarriett to buy marijuana cartridges from Hernandez-Jacinto. During the sale, they say Hernandez-Jacinto realized that the victim had given him movie prop money instead of real bills, and in response shot at Jarriett.

The DA's office says Hernandez-Jacinto’s defense counsel argued that the defendant acted in self-defense. However during the trial, the Deputy District Attorney showed messages where he admitted to shooting Jarriett in the back.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.
