A weeklong preliminary hearing for the man charged with killing conservative activist Charlie Kirk has paused for the day and will resume Thursday. Prosecutors are aiming to show that they have enough evidence against Tyler Robinson to proceed to trial. The 23-year-old defendant is charged with aggravated murder in Kirk’s Sept. 10 assassination on the Utah Valley University campus. Robinson has not yet entered a plea. Prosecutors and defense attorneys spent much of Wednesday afternoon seeking to sway a judge over what videotaped interviews, texts and other messages should or should not be admitted in the case.
Prosecutors played a video clip in court of suspect Tyler Robinson after he had turned himself into to Utah authorities following the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Robinson is charged with aggravated murder. Prosecutors intend to seek the death penalty. State District Judge Tony Graf will decide at the conclusion of this week’s hearing if they have enough evidence to bring Robinson to trial on an aggravated murder charge. A state investigator says Robinson’s roommate, Lance Twiggs, was interviewed twice as part of the investigation. Prosecutors are expected to play audio clips of Twiggs' statements to investigators Thursday.
