Pakistan's president has declared a state of emergency in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and suspended its government, led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party. The  move comes ahead of a planned march on Islamabad by Khan's supporters demanding his release. The federal Cabinet recommended emergency rule, accusing the provincial government of neglecting counterterrorism efforts. Khan, imprisoned since 2023 on corruption charges, remains a significant political figure. His party condemns the suspension as a "disguised coup." Authorities have detained several supporters and increased security to prevent unrest. Khan's party plans to march on Islamabad despite government warnings.
