Local fishermen will be happy to hear that the Sparks Marina was reloaded with 2,500 Tiger Trout Tuesday morning, giving anglers more opportunities to try and reel them in.

"Tiger Trout are a cross between Brown Trout and Brook Trout and offer a really good fight for anglers that are able to get them on the end their line," said Sam Sedillo, Regional Fisheries Biologist, NDOW.

Just last month, the organization added 5,000 rainbow trout.

NDOW tries to stock the Marina every two weeks, if the weather allows until the early summer.

How much they fill the Marina varies from year to year.

Last year, they added 38,000 fish.

NDOW says they do this work to make fishing more accessible for everyone, especially for kids.

"Certainly, getting our youth out to get their first fish on the end of their line is really exciting for them and really a keystone moment for getting them connected with nature," Sedillo said.

Other than trout, the Marina also has Channel Catfish and Small Mouth Bass as well.

However, depending on the time of year, it depends on which fish you're most likely going to catch.

"Sparks Marina is great both for trout fishing, which are cold water fish, and then also warm water fish such as catfish and bass, which again during those warm weather months are more active than trout," Sedillo said.

Just a reminder for those interested in fishing in the Marina, the daily limit is three game fish, and only two of those can be Black Bass.

Live bait or fish parts is not allowed, but you can use worms.

Fishing is also prohibited on and near beaches within the cove.

Hours you can fish are one hour before sunrise to two hours after sunset.

Before casting a line, you must have a fishing license, but the money you spend towards that goes back into getting more fish added to the Marina.

"The money that you spend on your license goes directly back into stocking fish and other conservation efforts around the state. Again, buy your license, get outside and enjoy some great fishing," said Sedillo.

If you haven't gotten the chance to get your fishing license, NDOW does offer registration on their website:
