Spirit Airlines abruptly ended operations after a failed restructuring. The airline announced its end on May 2. It said the increase in oil prices played a role in its closure.

Travelers at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport shared their thoughts about what happened, some saying they're upset with how things played out, and others saying good riddance.

"It had to be hard on the people who had tickets. But I never take spirit, so I'm not going to miss it," said traveler Candace Talbot.

Travelers who had liked Spirit and flown previously with the airline say they felt betrayed and blindsided by the announcement on Saturday.

"Everything's shut down in the blink of an eye. And it seemed like if something was going to close down, there'd be some period, some notice, people would have some sense of it. So, I was shocked it happened so quickly in an overnight type of operation," said Travis Butler, another traveler.

The unexpected end of Spirit left some people in a tight spot, stranded while traveling and now needing to make a different plan to get back home.

"I thought it was crazy because, like, it was just, like, random and, like, there's a lot of people that had flights, like, even from the volleyball tournament coming home, and they're just kind of stranded," said Jaelyn Love. "They just had to, like, find different flights and they just had to, like, ask around, and they were stuck here until they could be able to buy another flight."

RNO is recommending travelers look at other airlines that may have discounts for those impacted.
