A prominent member of the Fernley community died last week of what is believed to be natural causes.
Dan McCassie was described in a release by the Lyon County Sheriff's Office as a beloved member of the Fernley community.
He served on the city council and the fire board for the North Lyon County Fire Protection District. He also owned a local pawn shop according to the Sheriff's Office release.
On May 2nd, just after 7:30 p.m., Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and North Lyon Fire Department personnel were dispatched to Red Rock Road in Fernley on a report of a medical emergency, the release said.
First responders attempted to save McCassie's life but he was ultimately confirmed dead.
The investigation remains active and ongoing according to the Sheriff's Office, which extended thoughts and prayers to the McCassie family, saying Dan will certainly be missed.
