Snow reports from Thursday

Reno is breaking more records this week for maximum daily snow amounts. Four inches of snow fell at the airport on Thursday, breaking the old record by one inch, set back in 1971. Reno also broke the daily record on Tuesday by six tenths, with a total of 7.7 inches.

Our ski resorts also saw a good amount of snow on Thursday, with many of them receiving at least several inches at the base. Palisades Tahoe got a foot and a half. Tahoe City got nearly ten inches of snow within 24 hours as well.

The Central Sierra Snow Lab keeps a daily record of the snow as long as it is possible to do so. They are recording 111 inches of snow over the past five days, which is the third snowiest five-day total ever reported at their station since 1970, when digital records began. 18.5 inches fell on Thursday alone. Their lab is located near Donner Summit.
