The Reno-Tahoe International Airport has been undergoing renovations for quite some time, but the work is not over yet.
On May 22, 2025, the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority, or RTAA, invited the community to an event to showcase the next phase of its concourse expansion plans.
MoreRNO is the name of the airport's future plans, simply because, according to officials, it is about adding more of everything.
April Conway, spokesperson for the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, explained, "When we talked with folks a few years ago about what this could look like, everyone said they wanted more of this, more of this, more of this, and we thought more RNO makes a lot of sense because that's what we're bringing to the community."
They describe MoreRNO as a multi-year infrastructure program, and even Thursday night's event served as a sneak peek at what is ahead.
Conway went on to say, "The new concourses will include more space, more amenities, more areas for families, larger hold rooms, really just upgrading the experience for all of our passengers."
As part of the expansion, the airport is also aiming to add more local touches to the concourses.
"The restaurants and coffee shops and all of that we have, we're hoping to get more of a local flavor, whether that's local chains or mom-and-pop shops, it's a variety we want to showcase all the best things that Reno Tahoe has to offer."
They are also planning to reflect more of the region’s natural surroundings.
"We're really looking at a modern mountain aesthetic. We want to take all the outside beauty that we have in our area and bring it inside so it's going to be lighter and brighter and just more space."
However, with these changes come some growing pains.
Conway said that parking will get worse before it gets better, and encouraged passengers to ask a friend for a ride or take a rideshare to the airport until parking upgrades are complete.
"We've been growing and growing and growing for decades, and it's really time for the buildings and the amenities to catch up with the population growth that's been here. We want our airport to reflect the best first and last impression that Reno Tahoe can make."
At the event, the community also got a look at what the airport's art and ADA programs have planned.
Roughly 400 people were expected to attend, and airport officials emphasized that they welcome public input, as some of the plans are still in development.
