Well skiers and snowboarders, the wait is over.

Palisades Tahoe opened one side of their resort on Wednesday, and after opening the alpine side today, they're now offering the whole schabang.

"We're just excited to welcome everybody back home at Palisades," said Maddy Condon, PR coordinator for Palisades Tahoe.

July 4 was the last time skiers were able to shred on the palisades terrain after the snowfall made for a historically long season.

Last year, palisades saw a total of 723 inches of snow.

This year, mother nature has been off to a slow start with the snow, but the resort is still making it work.

Currently there's only about 6,000 acres of terrain available to shred on, but once more snow falls or is made, there will be so much more room for fun activities.

"So right now, the challenges have just been snow making and making sure we can get terrain open on both sides of the mountain," Condon said.

Travis Ganong competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics and professionally skied for many years.

He says the alpine resort is one of a kind.

"As a professional skier, I've skied some of the gnarliest things in the world and I still come here and get challenged on a daily basis," Ganong said. "I'll never get bored skiing here."

Ganong grew up near the resort, so when it came down to call an end to his career, being closer to his roots played a major role in that.

"One of the reasons I retired was so I could spend time here," he said. "Skiing here just cause it's so good and I haven't been able to do it all these years traveling on the world cup tour."

Vistors today couldn't contain their excitement.

"Pretty excited to get back up on the mountain and get going," said Cade Evans, snowboarder. "It's my hobby. It's what I love to do. It's my passion. It's where I come out here to relax and hang out with the guys."

Some use the winter sport for escapism from their regular day to day life.

"For me it's kind of like a getaway," said Marrick Pandey, skier. "I just like to get out to the mountains and when I'm skiing or snowboard, I'm not focused on anything else in my outside world. It's just not catching an edge."

Skiers and snowboarders will have plenty of shredding weekends ahead, as the winter season has just begun.
