We don't usually get it this early but the pool weather has been spectacular over the past few days. Wednesday was in fact the warmest March day on record at the airport with an official high of 86 degrees. The warmest temperatures are yet to come Friday before we cool down over the weekend courtesy of a cold front.
In the meantime it would not be surprising if you are looking for ways to beat the heat, specifically by jumping in a body of water. For those new to the area, the prospect of a Lake Tahoe dip or wading in the Truckee River might be tempting. Boating or kayaking might actually be okay but the truth is that the water temperatures are far too cold for anything other than a quick cold plunge.
A bit too cold to swim right now!
Water temperatures in the Truckee River and Lake Tahoe are both around 50 degrees as of Thursday evening. You only need to be in the water only briefly for cold shock to set in. Wet suits may help but it's best to just avoid immersing yourself until the summer, when the water temperature becomes milder. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy the stunning Lake Tahoe beaches though!
