The Sacramento Regional Type 3 Incident Management Team has assumed command of the Talbot Fire burning on the Tahoe National Forest.
The fire, located off French Meadows Road approximately four miles northeast of French Meadows Reservoir and 14 miles southwest of Truckee.
Over the past day, crews have made significant progress in preventing further fire spread.
Firefighters have been working to surround the fire’s perimeter with hoselines and handline, while dozers have assisted in creating control lines to prevent further growth.
Several helicopters have been coordinating with firefighters on the ground to attack hot spots and areas of high heat.
The fire has burned an estimated 75 acres and is 15% contained.
Placer County Sheriff's Office has issued an evacuation warning for portions of Tahoe National Forest along French Meadows Road including the community of Cedars.
Thursday, August 13 11:45 A.M. update:
New mapping on the Talbot Fire shows the fire has scorched 75 acres. That's a downgrade from the 200 acre estimate released Wednesday night.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, fire behavior moderated overnight allowing crews to gain access and make progress.
Dozer lines have been placed on the left and right flanks of the fire; it is now 15% contained.
All campgrounds and recreation areas in French Meadows remain evacuated.

Wednesday, August 12 update:
A new wildfire near Lake Tahoe is prompting evacuation warnings in Placer County on Wednesday night.
The Talbot Fire first ignited just after 5 p.m. on Wednesday and has already burned around 200 acres, according to reporting from our CBS affiliate in Sacramento.
It is burning near French Meadows Road, west of Lake Tahoe and northeast of French Meadows Reservoir.
The fire is not contained, and the cause is under investigation.
The Placer County Sheriff's Office has issued an evacuation warning for portions of the Tahoe National Forest along French Meadows Road, including the Cedars community.
Aircraft are helping to fight the fire and have slowed its spread, according to the U.S. Forest Service - Tahoe National Forest on Facebook.
