On June 1, Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation held its "Canoe the Slough" fundraiser at the Rosewood Nature Study Area.
Attendees who registered beforehand were able to get a unique experience of the wetland area by kayaking through the Boynton Slough.
A slough refers to a type of wetland along the edges of rivers where the old channel of the river once flowed.
Normally this area is closed to launching any kind of watercraft.
