Less than a week after police body camera video was released by Sparks Police, the county coroner has confirmed that the man involved in last month's shootout died of 'multiple gunshot wounds'.

The coroner also says that an autopsy of 34-year-old Anthony G. Wade showed that his manner of death was homicide.

APRIL 12, 2024:

Sparks Police has released body camera video of last month's shootout near Greenbrae and Rock Blvd.

34-year-old Anthony G. Wade of Reno died in the March 29th incident.

Police say when they pulled over Wade he began shooting immediately, hitting an officer in the shoulder. Then they say Wade drove off in a Ford Expedition, crashing into a U-Haul truck near Greenbrae and Rock. From the initial traffic stop to the end, police say the incident lasted 8.5 hours.

SWAT, WCSO, Sparks Police, and Reno Police all negotiated with the suspect for several hours using various tactics and there were several instances where the suspect fired shots and officers returned fire.

At 10 p.m., officers entered the home and found the suspect dead.

Police say the three unidentified officers who were shot were treated and released from a nearby hospital.

The investigation will now be reviewed by the Washoe County District Attorney's Office.

Update March 30:

The Sparks Police Department confirmed three members of law enforcement were shot in yesterday's standoff but they have been released from the hospital after being treated for their injuries.

In a press conference this morning, Sparks Police said Friday around 1:30 p.m. an officer pulled over a car near 1700 Greenbrae Drive, when the driver pulled out a handgun and shot at the officer through the window, striking them in the shoulder.

The suspect then drove away and hit another car in the intersection of Greenbrae and Rock Blvd. The driver then got out and ran away on foot.

Dispatch officers received reports that the suspect was jumping fences on Greenbrae and Prospect Ave. so Sparks Police, Reno Police, and Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputies started searching the area on foot.

The suspect then entered a residence there and was driven out by the person who lived there.

Officers checked a second home that the suspect was said to be at, and an elderly woman who lived there answered the door, then dropped to the floor, and the suspect began shooting at the officers from inside the home.

That's when a WCSO deputy and Sparks Police officer were struck by the gunfire.

After that, the suspect left and entered a third person’s home, and went into the backyard and began firing at officers again.

Officers were able to get both residents out of their homes safely and get them away from the scene.

The suspect finally went back inside that residence and barricaded himself.

SWAT, WCSO, Sparks Police, and Reno Police all negotiated with the suspect for several hours using various tactics and there were several instances where the suspect fired shots and officers returned fire.

At 10 p.m., officers entered the home and found the suspect dead.

The identity of the suspect will be released by WCSO at a later time.

The two Sparks Police officers and one WCSO deputy who were shot were treated for injuries at the hospital and have been released.

Rock Boulevard has been reopened in both directions, but some roads are still blocked, including Greenbrae Drive east of Rock Boulevard.

The Reno Police Department is leading the investigation and will release any further details.
