The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) says they will be increasing their enforcement efforts of the 'Move Over Law' throughout the state soon.
They said this period they're focusing on that law because they continue to see drivers that do not make a reasonable effort to move over on a regular basis for first responders.
They said the Nevada law has required drivers to slow down and move over to the far lane when possible while passing emergency response vehicles that are pulled over on the side of the road with flashing lights. It has been in place since 2003. In July of 2017, the law was expended to lawfully require drives to do the same for Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) vehicles and Freeway Service Patrol vehicles.
NHP says the increased effort will be noticed by drivers not only in the metropolitan areas of the state but in smaller rural communities as well.Â
Those that fail to mover over for stopped emergency vehicles will see proper enforcement action taken.

This NHP Trooper was lucky to walk away from this traffic stop with only minor injuries after a suspected impaired driver struck his patrol car. Move over, slow down for stopped emergency vehicles and drive sober. #breakingnews #news #drivesober #drivesafenv #buckleup #nhpsocomm pic.twitter.com/G9HDSgfh3v
