NHP Trooper Christopher J. Wirtanen was booked into Washoe County Jail and charged with a DUI early Friday morning.
Nevada Department of Public Safety Public Information Officer David Gibson has confirmed that Wirtanen was off-duty at the time of the arrest.
Gibson also tells us Wirtanen has been placed on administrative duties and is cooperating until his arraignment.Â
Gibson says the DUI was Trooper Wirtanen's first offense, so he could face 30 days of unpaid leave. If it was a second offense, he could face termination.Â
